Lovejoy Gifted Association proudly serves as LISD’s Gifted and Talented & Academic Enrichment Booster Club.
Our Mission: The Lovejoy Gifted Association (LGA) is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization of parents, educators and community members concerned with creating, supporting, and advocating legislation for expanded opportunities for Gifted and Talented (GT) education in the Lovejoy Independent School District (LISD). We strive to locate, utilize, create, and advocate academic enrichment and gifted opportunities for all students. The activities, resources and training provided by LGA are available to all individuals interested in Gifted and Talented education, not just GT identified students and their parents.
Our Purposes are to:
Gifted children often have intellectual, physical, emotional, social and spiritual intensities not experienced by the regular population. These GT students require different approaches to teaching and interpersonal relationships incorporating awareness and sensitivity. Sengifted.org
Support GT Education in Lovejoy ISD
Gifted students need to be challenged at school to succeed. We encourage and support Lovejoy ISD in its efforts to provide an exemplary and qualitatively differentiated gifted and talented program where-in each student may advance toward his/her fullest potential. LISD GT
Provide Parent and Family Education
We encourage parents’ participation in public education and programs for gifted children. As parents you are the most important and meaningful support system your gifted student will ever have, and your understanding and devotion to their unique needs will be the single most important contributing factor to their success in life.
We serve as a base for disseminating information about giftedness and gifted resources by providing numerous programs, speakers, activites, literature and links to websites and associations that support gifted education. LGA resources and actvities are available for all persons interested in gifted and talented education.
We seek academic enrichment for all students in LISD by encouraging participation in all kinds of expanded academic experiences. We also promote opportunities for academic enrichment to the entire community. Board Members of LGA designed and created the original Academic Enrichment tool which is now maintained on Lovejoy ISD’s website.
We support Academic Competitions. The opportunity to participate in academic competitions is important for all students, but especially for gifted students. This is their opportunity to “perform” just like musicians or athletes. LGA supports Academic UIL and encourages many other academic competitions for students such as spelling and geography bees, Math Olympiad, and many others.
Lovejoy Gifted Association offers a Senior Achievement Scholarship to LISD GT students every school year. This scholarship is awarded to a GT senior of outstanding merit and achievement whose family has been a member of LGA for at least 2 of their high school years.
Fulfill Teacher Grants
We want to give service to the community by promoting gifted education. What better way than to fund our own GT teacher’s requests for academic enrichment tools. Some of the many things we have purchased for classroom use are digital spectrometers, math manipulatives and a worm farm.
The Texas Association for the Gifted and Talented (TAGT) is an organization of educators and parents dedicated to meeting the unique needs of Gifted and Talented students. Chartered in 1978, TAGT is the nation’s largest state advocacy group of its kind. LGA annually renews membership as a parent support group affiliated with TAGT.
