Speaker: Fantastic Fossil Findings

Join John S. Mead — Passionate Biology Teacher, Origins Explorer & Nature Photographer — as he guides us through his exciting participation in Dr. Lee Berger’s scientific excavation of a new human species, Homo Naledi, from the Rising Star Cave in South Africa. This species of human ancestor is believed to be 900,000 to 2 million years old. The discovery of Homo Naledi is featured on the cover of the October 2015 National Geographic Magazine, and a current exhibit at the Perot Science Museum. 

Presentation is suitable for middle & high school students

This event is for everyone interested in learning more about the Gifted and Talented (GT) Program at Lovejoy ISD.

You will be able to meet Brie Smith, Director of Advanced Academics for grades 5-12, 
and Caroline Garcia, Elementary GT Coordinator.

All prospective and current LGA members are encouraged to attend and mingle with other GT parents.

This is an informal, come and go event, so please stop in at your convenience.

A light brunch and beverages will be provided, and children are welcome to attend.

Build and Launch Rockets with the LGA!

Sponsored by Lovejoy Gifted Association and DARS and available to all students (recommended for 5th – 8th grade, parents may use their own discretion).

 Watch the Demonstration Launch*Thursday, Jan. 28 at SCIS — 1 rocket launched during last 15 min. of each lunch period behind school — Parents are welcome to attend

Build Your Own Rocket  — Monday, February 29 at 6pm in Sloan Creek Cafeteria

LGA Presents Social Intelligence Parent Workshop – Nov. 10

Social Intelligence Workshop  — Tuesday, November 10 at 7pm in the LHS Lecture Hall (first door to the left after entering the high school).

 

Social skills and understanding people are vital to success in life. This workshop presented by NuMinds will focus on the contrast between traditional IQ and SI (Social Intelligence). It will emphasize the difference between social awareness and social facility, calling on research (especially Daniel Goleman and Howard Gardner) to give parents some straightforward takeaways to develop Social Intelligence in their child. Sponsored by the Lovejoy Gifted Association   Everyone 9th grade and older is welcome to attend – Free for LGA members and $5 for non-members.

TAGT Family Night – 10/5/2015

The Texas Association of Gifted and Talented is having a Family Night on Monday, October 5th.

Gifted and Talented Family Night is brought to you by TAGT, McKinney ISD and McKinney ALPS. Students will engage directly with innovative enrichment partners who offer unique, hands-on STEM activities. Parents will receive inventive programming to enhance their understanding of the challenges their children face.

TAGT strives to provide parents of gifted children with information that will be unique and of value to them.
Registration for all events will begin at 5:30 p.m. and programming will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
