Speaker: Fantastic Fossil Findings

Join John S. Mead — Passionate Biology Teacher, Origins Explorer & Nature Photographer — as he guides us through his exciting participation in Dr. Lee Berger’s scientific excavation of a new human species, Homo Naledi, from the Rising Star Cave in South Africa. This species of human ancestor is believed to be 900,000 to 2 million years old. The discovery of Homo Naledi is featured on the cover of the October 2015 National Geographic Magazine, and a current exhibit at the Perot Science Museum. 

Presentation is suitable for middle & high school students

LGA Presents Social Intelligence Parent Workshop – Nov. 10

Social Intelligence Workshop  — Tuesday, November 10 at 7pm in the LHS Lecture Hall (first door to the left after entering the high school).

 

Social skills and understanding people are vital to success in life. This workshop presented by NuMinds will focus on the contrast between traditional IQ and SI (Social Intelligence). It will emphasize the difference between social awareness and social facility, calling on research (especially Daniel Goleman and Howard Gardner) to give parents some straightforward takeaways to develop Social Intelligence in their child. Sponsored by the Lovejoy Gifted Association   Everyone 9th grade and older is welcome to attend – Free for LGA members and $5 for non-members.

The Lovejoy Gifted Association presents “Talent Development”  by Todd Kettler Ph.D., on Wednesday, April 15 at 7:00p.m. in the Lovejoy High School Lecture Hall.  Find out more about the nature of giftedness and the role of parents and families in developing talent and supporting giftedness. Dr. Kettler is an assistant professor at UNT and teaches courses in gifted education, creativity, and child development.
